· Teeth cleaning: Teeth cleaning involves the removal of tartar or dental plaque by using ultrasounds.

· A dental veneer: A dental veneer is a shell of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance.

· Teeth whitening: Tooth whitening lightens teeth and helps to remove stains and discoloration

This is the procedure by which we may increase the whiteness of your teeth one or two shades. There are two types of whitening:

– At-Home Bleaching kit from Your Dentist:
This tooth whitening is performed by the patient at home. We provide you with a professional at-home kit and the instructions.
Whitening products contain carbamide peroxide. This compound is put on custom-fitted trays made for this treatment. The patient will have to use these trays during their resting time. The duration of the treatment will depend on the shade you want to whiten your teeth to. This at-home treatment is recommended to those patients who have already received an in-Office Bleaching and want a retouch or, for those patients who wants this treatment before an in-office bleaching.

– In-Office Bleaching: The material commonly used for this procedure is hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of 38%.

This material has a different active ingredient; therefore the result is immediately visible. Hydrogen peroxide acts by releasing oxygen molecules that penetrate the enamel of the tooth, diminishing its tone, and therefore whitening it.

Procedure: This procedure can only be performed in a clinic supervised by specialists.

The first step is a diagnostic visit to know the patient expectations of the treatment and personalise their case.

In the next step a protective gel is applied on the gum; this gel hardens by means of polymerizable light, thus preventing the bleaching gel from coming into contact with the soft tissues. After this, we apply the hydrogen peroxide on the surface of the teeth and place a source of LED light for the procedure to accelerate. The treatment lasts between 30 and 60 minutes and is done in a single session. Whitening appointments do not require prescribed rest. After the treatment the patient can continue with his usual routine.

After tooth whitening the tooth tissue is more porous and it is easier to be dyed, therefore the intake of drinks or food with colouring is not recommended as for example: wine, coffee, tea, curry, paella, soft drinks, cherries, etc… Tobacco is totally contraindicated.

Advice:

  • Does it damage the teeth? No, tooth whitening does not damage the teeth. The procedure is the demineralization of the enamel, the enamel is in constant remineralization during all the life, therefore, whenever it is done under the prescription of the dentist and carried out by them there is no danger.
  • Is it effective if I am a smoker? It does have an effect, but the durability of the treatment decreases a lot.
  • Can teenagers have this treatment done? It is recommended for patients over 18.
  • How long does it last? It depends on the patient and their eating habits. If the bad habits are eliminated, it can last several years.
